Former Land Minister Won Hee-ryong is scheduled to appear for questioning over a scrapped expressway project allegedly tied to the family of imprisoned former first lady Kim Keon Hee.
A special council team said former Land Minister Won Hee-ryong is scheduled to appear for questioning at 10 a.m. on Thursday. He served as Land Minister under then President Yoon Suk Yeol from May 2022 to December 2023.
The Seoul-Yangpyeong expressway project became a major political issue after allegations that its route was altered to benefit the family of now-imprisoned former first lady Kim Keon Hee, whose land is near the new endpoint. Won rejected the claims and scrapped the project.
The special council team imposed a travel ban on Won in March and seized his mobile phone last Wednesday.
