Famous music manager Ato Addis Gessese passes away

Addis Ababa, June 19, 2026 (FMC) Prominent music manager Ato Addis Gessese has died in the United States while receiving medical treatment for an illness.

Ato Addis Gessese served one year in the Ethiopian Air Force before moving to the United States, where he studied at institutions including Harold Washington University and Northeastern Illinois University.

He managed Dalol Band and helped Ziggy Marley secure a Grammy Award. He also managed artists including Teddy Afro and Gigi, and founded bands such as Jano Band.

With his brother, he built 30 schools in rural areas. He died at age 73 on Sene 9, 2018 EC while in the United States. Family members indicated that details on his funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
