A 69-year-old Hong Kong woman remains in critical condition after a quad bike accident in northern Okinawa on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 11am on Saturday at an outdoor racetrack in Nago City. The woman was part of a group of six tourists receiving instruction on operating all-terrain vehicles.
She accidentally hit the throttle, causing the vehicle to accelerate, lose balance and overturn. She suffered a severe blow to the left side of her head and was bleeding heavily.
The woman was unconscious when airlifted to hospital. Hong Kong’s Immigration Department said it contacted the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s office in Hong Kong and the consulate in Fukuoka after receiving a request from her family, and is providing assistance.
