ICE carries out over 1,400 daily detentions in July 2026

ICE agents arrested an average of more than 1,400 migrants per day during the first 11 days of July, according to federal records. This follows a record in June during Donald Trump's second term.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has intensified immigration detention operations. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents carried out 16,213 arrests between July 1 and 11, exceeding June's daily average.

Three recent deaths are linked to these operations. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican from Guanajuato, was shot on July 7 in Houston. Joan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian, died in Maine. Juan Jairo Coronilla Durán, 28 and holding a tourist visa, was struck by a truck on July 14 in Florida while fleeing.

Mullin defended the actions in an X post, emphasizing agent safety. Critics such as David Bier of the Cato Institute noted the approach is more dispersed but similar to prior operations that sparked protests.
