Jose Alvarado, a Brooklyn native and Knicks backup point guard, played a central role in the victory after limited action in the first half. He hit key three-pointers, set screens, and defended Spurs star Victor Wembanyama during the second-half rally.
Coaches who have worked with Alvarado highlighted his toughness and unselfish play. Ryan Pannone, his former G League coach, described him as the toughest player on the floor who does not back down regardless of opponent size. Mike D'Antoni noted Alvarado's infectious energy and willingness to assert his will on both ends.
New York now leads the series 3-1 and stands one win from its first title in 53 years. Alvarado joined the team in February and has quickly become a fan favorite at Madison Square Garden for his competitive style.
