One of three victims from suspected food contamination at a funeral in Ga-Maja, Limpopo, was buried on Saturday. Linah Machete, 54, died along with two others, while 123 people fell ill after eating at the event last weekend. Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has ordered health officials to speed up tests on the incident.
Linah Machete, 54, from Mmotong-wa-Bogobe village outside Polokwane, was laid to rest in Ga-Maja on Saturday following her death from suspected food contamination. The incident occurred at a funeral last weekend, where three people died and 123 others became ill after consuming food.
Johannes Machete, her son, spoke of the family's grief. "We are deeply saddened by her loss. Death is something we are not familiar with. Her death has taken a toll on us. Our mother was the one taking care of her mother, my grandmother, and now that responsibility falls on me," he said.
Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba directed health authorities to expedite tests on the alleged contamination. The response comes amid ongoing investigations into the tragedy at the village event.
