Eastern Cape ANC shocked by murder of councillor Thumeka Bikwana

The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape has expressed shock at the killing of Thumeka Bikwana, a member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services in the Chris Hani District. Her body was found with a bullet wound at her home in Tshatshu Village on Tuesday.

The party described Bikwana as a dedicated public servant and loyal politician. Provincial spokesperson Yanga Zicina urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in bringing those responsible to justice.

Zicina highlighted the ongoing problem of gender-based violence in the province. He noted that the murder of women activists and public servants remains a serious concern for communities across the Eastern Cape.

The ANC called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the death. Officials have not released further details about suspects or possible motives at this stage.
