Ludvig Rensfeldt leaves Djurgården after 302 matches

Ludvig Rensfeldt, a 34-year-old center, is departing Djurgården after five seasons and 302 competitive matches. The club thanked the veteran for his role in promoting them back to the SHL and his strong performance upon return. Sport manager Niklas Wikegård described the decision as tough.

Djurgården announced that Ludvig Rensfeldt will leave the club as his contract expires, following the departures of players including Anton Frondell, Victor Eklund, Joey LaLeggia, Samuel Solem, Oula Palve, Oliver Kylington, and Valtteri Pulli. Rensfeldt, who joined five years ago, played a key part in the team's journey after relegation from the SHL. He stayed on to help secure promotion back to Sweden's top hockey league and contributed to a solid first season as newcomers, amassing 129 points over 302 matches while missing only 13 games. The club hailed him as an 'eternal qualifier hero' on X and praised his hard work, valuable play, and calming presence in the locker room. Niklas Wikegård, Djurgården's sporting director, said: 'This decision feels very tough to make, but it's unfortunately time to say goodbye to the best possible person. Ludde has been here for five seasons and made an enormous contribution to the shield.' Rensfeldt reflected on his time: 'It's bittersweet to leave; I have many fond memories. The first year you'd rather forget, but it gave me strength to stay and set things right with Djurgården. Representing Djurgården has meant a lot to me; I quickly became a Djurgårdare, and that feeling won't fade.'
