Microsoft executive for Hispanic South America María Paula Duque said AI allows companies to obtain sustainability data faster and make decisions with greater agility.
In an interview published on July 4, Duque explained that AI reduces the time needed to prepare reports on carbon emissions and water consumption. According to her, this allows companies to adjust business actions on a daily basis instead of waiting a year.
The executive mentioned that Microsoft has achieved a permanent improvement of nearly 90% in water consumption at its data centers and that all operate with renewable energy. She also noted that AI generates a positive impact on about 75% of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Duque addressed community resistance to new data centers in Chile and the need to engage with local communities. She also highlighted the role of women in technology and cited Microsoft’s Work Trend Index, which identifies “frontier employees” as those who use AI most effectively.
