Masyn Winn delivered a game-winning bloop single in the bottom of the 11th inning, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets at Busch Stadium. The win secured the series for St. Louis after an hour-plus rain delay postponed the start on Wednesday afternoon. Winn's hit marked his first career walk-off RBI.
The game remained tight throughout, with Mets starter Freddy Peralta dominating early. Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. He left with a 1-0 lead after Juan Soto's first home run of the season, but the Cardinals tied it later on an inherited runner scoring against reliever Huascar Brazobán. Peralta topped out at 96.2 mph and leaned on his changeup for swing-and-miss stuff, as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza noted. “He was really good,” Mendoza said. “I thought the changeup usage was pretty impressive. A pitch that in his first outing, he didn’t use until like the fourth inning, and today he went right to it. ... Overall he was solid.” Peralta said, “I wasn’t thinking too much, just being myself. Attacking and trying to get quick outs.”
