Over 500 tyske kommuner deltager i Earth Hour

Miljøorganisationen WWF rapporterer, at 506 byer og kommuner i Tyskland deltog i Earth Hour lørdag. Klokken 20.30 lokal tid slukkede de lyset i en time, hvilket blandt andet omfattede vartegn som slottet Neuschwanstein, Brandenburger Tor i Berlin, Erfurt Domkirke og Schalke Stadion i Gelsenkirchen. Viviane Raddatz, klimachef hos WWF Tyskland, beskrev den store deltagelse som "et klart mandat til politikerne om at stoppe tilbageslagene i klimapolitikken, konsekvent fremme energiomstillingen og reducere vores afhængighed af fossil energi". Dette års Earth Hour markerede den 20. udgave. Initiativet blev lanceret i 2007 af WWF Australien og opfordrer millioner verden over til at slukke lyset i 60 minutter klokken 20.30 lokal tid – som et symbol på klima- og miljøbeskyttelse.
