Mother loses baby after two days of labor at Gama Hospital

Karleane da Conceição, 25, lost her baby after entering Hospital Regional do Gama on June 24 with pre-eclampsia. The baby was stillborn on Friday, June 26, following a cesarean section.

Karleane reported fasting for more than 24 hours after the cesarean decision was reversed within 15 minutes on June 25. She said the baby was agitated and a second cardiotocography showed 165 beats per minute, but health professionals said everything was fine.

The cesarean took place around 10 a.m. on June 26. According to the mother, the baby was born not breathing, not crying and with purple nails. Resuscitation attempts failed.

The Federal District Health Secretariat ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances. The family took the newborn to the Legal Medical Institute to determine the cause of death.
