New damage fund targets vandalism at Klockarskolan in Säter

Säter municipality has set up a 200,000 kronor damage fund to reduce vandalism at Klockarskolan. Students will decide how to spend any remaining money at the end of the year. The student council-driven initiative aims to foster a sense of ownership.

Säter's municipal council decided at the end of 2025 to create a 200,000 kronor damage fund, initiated by Klockarskolan's student council. Funds are drawn to repair vandalism, with any remainder allocated by the student council after one year.

Johan Larsson, teacher and student council coordinator, stated: “This is the student council's big issue, which they have pushed for a couple of years. We hope it will create a better spirit at the school where students see that 'This is our school and we are in charge.'”

Fifteen-year-old student Alma Olerås suggested: “Maybe we can buy new furniture, go on a camp trip, or have a prom for the ninth graders.”

Schools in Dalarna spend thousands to hundreds of thousands of kronor annually on vandalism repairs. Klockarskolan previously tried camera surveillance, with costs around 50,000 kronor in Säter for 2025.
