The Oaxaca state attorney general's office released a composite sketch of one of the suspected killers of journalist Francisco Alejandro Leyva Aguilar, who was murdered on Wednesday, July 22, in San Pablo Etla.
State prosecutor Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla said the image was created from interview data and will be shared to seek public tips. Four people remain in custody for questioning, but no arrests have been made in the homicide.
The federal attorney general’s office took over the case through its Specialized Human Rights Unit. Investigators reconstructed the suspects’ route using C5 cameras: they arrived on a black Pulsar motorcycle around 9:04 a.m., waited about one hour and 40 minutes, and the shooter fired around 10:50 a.m. before escaping in a 2016 Peugeot 2008.
At a tribute held at the Oaxaca Journalists Association, journalist Javier Aquino recalled Leyva telling him: “I know the danger and it does not scare me, because I chose to fight for freedom of expression.” Colleagues demanded the case be solved without impunity.
