Over 33,000 people register for AI music competition

More than 33,502 Ethiopians have registered for a human-evaluated AI music competition organized by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute and Fana Media Corporation. So far, 589 participants have submitted their works. The winner will receive a 1 million birr prize.

In Addis Ababa, on Megabit 14, 2018 EC (March 23, 2026 GC), the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and Fana Media Corporation launched a human-evaluated AI music competition that has attracted 33,502 registrations. As of now, 589 participants have submitted their works, according to the institute. The institute's Communication Director, Tesfaye Zewde, told Fana Digital: “A 1 million birr prize has been prepared for the winning participants.” This marks the first round, with similar AI competitions planned to follow. Participants can showcase their skills using human evaluation AI technology to potential employers and audiences, the institute stated. Submissions close tonight at 6 PM local time, with participants encouraged to submit promptly due to the tight deadline. Judges will evaluate entries based on fair, predefined criteria. The institute works to advance AI technology in Ethiopia through research to address societal challenges and aims to become Africa's leading AI hub by 2030.
