PDG deputies split on Kast's megarreforma despite Parisi

Despite former candidate Franco Parisi's call to reject President José Antonio Kast's megarreforma, some Partido de la Gente (PDG) deputies are open to supporting it. Bloc leader Juan Marcelo Valenzuela met with Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado to discuss the bill. Parliamentarians like Javier Olivares and Cristian Contreras expressed willingness to vote for it if it benefits Chileans.

President José Antonio Kast announced the megarreforma in a national address, a bill with over 40 measures to be submitted to Congress next week. PDG vice president Franco Parisi recommended his deputies reject it on Radio 13C: “Esa va a ser mi recomendación a los diputados”.

PDG bloc leader Juan Marcelo Valenzuela criticized it as a “ley macedonia not thought for the middle class”, noting lacks like FUT, VAT refunds on diapers and medicines, and VAT cut on basic basket. Yet deputy Fabián Ossandón stressed PDG is propositional and hopes the Executive adopts their ideas.

Despite party leadership, Javier Olivares said on Sin Filtros he would like to vote in favor to support the government, prioritizing internal order. Cristian Contreras, expelled from the bloc but formally in it, stated Parisi cannot order votes and he will back legislating the idea, reviewing details to support beneficial parts.

This morning, Valenzuela met at La Moneda with Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado (UDI), praising dialogue: “Me queda claro que sí existe una doctrina Alvarado [...] it is important to listen”. He noted spaces for improvement and willingness to refine the bill. By edition close, Olivares was meeting Minister José García (RN).
