Ifølge en rapport fra Tagesspiegel skal den tidligere kansler Olaf Scholz lede nord-syd-kommissionen. Organet har til opgave at udvikle anbefalinger til at styrke båndene til lande i det globale syd.

Udviklingsministeriet har ikke bekræftet udnævnelsen, men oplyser, at de interne regeringskonsultationer skrider hurtigt frem. En beslutning i ministerrådet forventes som det næste skridt.

Kommissionen har til formål at koble udviklingspolitik med sikkerheds- og udenrigspolitiske interesser. Den opfylder dermed et mandat fra koalitionsaftalen.
