Sheinbaum inaugurates first phase of AICM remodeling

President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated the first phase of remodeling at Mexico City's International Airport this Saturday, with an investment of 6.5 billion pesos.

The Mexican president noted that the investment is self-generated by the airport and does not come from public funds. More than 2,000 people have worked since April 2025 on interventions covering over 394,000 square meters in terminals 1 and 2.

Director general Juan José Padilla explained expansions to inspection lines and automatic migration filters. Security wait times were cut to 3 or 4 minutes, while migration processing dropped to 9 minutes.

Sheinbaum stated the goal is to improve service for Mexicans and not only for the 2026 World Cup. The AICM expects to handle 50 million passengers during the event.
