Cristopher Covington-Smith faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly using 31-year-old Corrisa Trowbridge's Ford Expedition to run her over during an argument in Abilene, Texas. Police found her body on the roadside and the bloody vehicle nearby. Covington-Smith was arrested the next day in Fort Worth.

On March 12, Cristopher Covington-Smith and Corrisa Trowbridge, who had a history of domestic disputes, argued in Abilene, Texas, according to court records reviewed by local ABC affiliate KTXS. Surveillance video captured Covington-Smith reversing and accelerating in Trowbridge's 2016 white Ford Expedition before striking her, authorities said. The Abilene Police Department received reports of a hit-and-run around 4 a.m. in the 1800 block of Corsicana Avenue, where officers found Trowbridge dead with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle and crash debris at the scene. The damaged SUV, missing a side mirror and containing suspected blood evidence, was located at a nearby home. Investigators identified Covington-Smith as the suspect. The next day, police arrested his father, Shannon Dwayne Covington, and brother, Anton Demarcus Covington, charging them with third-degree felony hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon for allegedly helping conceal him. Covington-Smith was apprehended later that day in Fort Worth with U.S. Marshals assistance and will be extradited 150 miles back to Abilene.
