Two Trinamool Congress leaders told Mamata Banerjee she must choose between her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and party members unhappy with him. The ultimatum came as another Rajya Sabha MP resigned and Abhishek faced CID questioning in a signature forgery case.
Sreerampur MP Kalyan Banerjee said Mamata has to decide whether she will stay with Abhishek or with those unhappy with him. Dum Dum MP Sougata Roy added that grievances include the high-handedness of Abhishek Banerjee and that Mamata must tackle those complaints.
Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the West Bengal CID for over five hours on Thursday in the alleged Assembly signature forgery case. The agency summoned him again while seeking missing resolution records. A single-judge Bench of the Calcutta High Court granted him interim protection from coercive action for three weeks.
Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Barik resigned from the Upper House and the party on June 11. He is the third TMC Rajya Sabha member to resign this week after Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev. Barik said he would work according to the instructions of CM Suvendu Adhikari in the future.
