The Trinamool Congress is shifting its organisational approach following recent electoral losses and defections. Party leaders say decisions will now rest directly with senior figures instead of external consultants. The move comes amid ongoing exits of lawmakers and officials.
Senior TMC leaders stated that the party has decided not to outsource organisational work. They noted that Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee would meet people daily at Kalighat and the party office. This marks a change from the party’s earlier reliance on the agency I-PAC for key decisions since the 2021 West Bengal assembly polls.
The recalibration follows criticism of I-PAC’s role. Lok Sabha chief whip Kalyan Banerjee said the agency had hijacked the organisation and created rifts. Former spokesperson Riju Dutta alleged that I-PAC officials sought bribes from candidates. The party is also moving activity away from the Camac Street office linked to Abhishek Banerjee.
Since election results on May 4, TMC has lost 62 of its 80 MLAs to a splinter group. Earlier this month, 20 of 28 Lok Sabha MPs sought a merger with NCPI. The Kolkata mayor and several corporators have resigned ahead of municipal elections scheduled later this year.
