Vanilla Ice's Freedom 250 concert canceled due to weather

Vanilla Ice's headline performance at the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair was canceled Friday due to inclement weather in Washington, D.C.

The cancellation occurred less than two hours before the rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was scheduled to take the stage at the National Mall on June 26, 2026. Organizers announced the closure of the fair and FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone for the rest of the day, citing safety as the top priority while monitoring conditions.

Vanilla Ice had posted earlier that day from the site, describing the show as a “once in a lifetime” moment and saying “We’re about to have a great party tonight.” His set was part of the ‘I Love The 90s!’ concert series tied to the Trump-backed Freedom 250 organization.

Several other artists, including Morris Day & The Time, The Commodores, Young MC, Bret Michaels and Martina McBride, had already withdrawn from the lineup. Vanilla Ice had defended his participation earlier in the month, stating it was about celebrating America’s 250th anniversary rather than politics.

The fair reopened Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until July 10. Vanilla Ice’s performance was not rescheduled.
