Wagner Moura, Ralph Fiennes and Colin Farrell have been cast in Art, a new comedy directed by Fernando Meirelles. The production, based on Yasmina Reza's play, depicts a friendship crisis sparked by the purchase of an expensive white painting. Fernando Meirelles, director of City of God, Blindness and The Two Popes, has cast Wagner Moura, Ralph Fiennes and Colin Farrell in Art, a comedy questioning what art is. According to Deadline and Variety, the film adapts Yasmina Reza's French play, a Tony winner. The screenplay is by Christopher Hampton, a two-time Oscar winner for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The plot follows three friends whose bond fractures when Serge buys an exorbitantly priced all-white painting. Marc is outraged, sparking a debate on art, with Yvan mediating. This is not Meirelles' first collaboration with the actors: he worked with Fiennes on The Constant Gardener (2005), Farrell on the series Sugar (2024), and produced Moura's films like VIPs (2010).
Art will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival's Marche du Film, where producers seek financing and distribution deals. The film has no release date yet. Meirelles is also preparing releases like Corrida dos Bichos on Prime Video and Here Comes The Flood on Netflix.
