Andre Chance reveals how Chase U character originated in WWE

Andre Chance, formerly known as Andre Chase, shared details about the creation of his popular Chase University character during a recent interview. He also recounted being told he would never appear on television in WWE until Shawn Michaels intervened.

Speaking on Duke Hanson’s Between Two Jobs show, Chance described how the character began in a promo class led by Road Dogg. The directive required everyone to develop a well-defined persona, and Chance drew from his coaching background to create an unasked-for advice giver who left a feedback box in the ring.

The act escalated when negative comments filled the box the following week, prompting Chance to lose his temper. Road Dogg found the outburst hilarious and showed the promo to Shawn Michaels, who linked it to college basketball coach Bobby Knight and suggested a red sweater for the role.

In a separate account, Chance recalled repeated warnings after joining WWE that he was hired only to train younger talents like Bron Breakker and would not appear on TV. A strong match against Julius Creed caught Michaels’ attention, leading to Chance’s debut on 205 Live the next week.
