Asus ZenScreen Duo OLED monitor earns positive review

Asus has introduced the ZenScreen Duo OLED MQ149CD, a dual-screen portable monitor praised for its design and display quality. The Asus ZenScreen Duo OLED MQ149CD stands out as a well-designed portable monitor, weighing just 2.3 pounds, which is lighter than competitors like the Acer PD163Q at 3.1 pounds and the Minisforum MDSA156 at 3.26 pounds. Its hinge allows the displays to rotate nearly 360 degrees, while a kickstand supports multiple angles for the lower screen, and a rear tripod mount enables elevation or side-by-side orientation.

Users can configure the two 14-inch, 1,920x1,200 OLED panels through an on-screen display in modes such as Extend Mode for independent monitors with one connection, Independent Mode requiring two connections, Split Mode treating them as one larger screen, or Mirror Mode duplicating the laptop display. The OLED panels deliver infinite contrast and full 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, with color accuracy measuring a maximum dE1976 of 2.05 and an average of 1.14.

Powered by a single USB-C cable, the monitor supports operation even in dual-monitor modes without HDR, though maximum brightness on both screens requires additional power. In Eco mode, brightness reaches 167.2 nits; at full power, it hits 379.2 nits, and HDR mode peaks at 600 nits with a 10% window. The 60Hz refresh rate suits productivity but falls short for gaming.

Priced at $599, the ZenScreen Duo excels in build quality and versatility, making it ideal for those needing dual screens for tasks like word processing or data entry. However, its cost and need for auxiliary power for some settings may deter casual users or gamers seeking higher refresh rates.
