Coinbase launches tool letting AI agents trade crypto

Coinbase introduced a new platform on Wednesday that connects artificial intelligence assistants to user accounts for automated crypto trading and payments.

Coinbase announced the launch of "Coinbase for Agents," a platform enabling AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude to link directly to customer accounts.

The service allows agents to execute spot crypto and derivatives trades, access market data, and handle payments within user-set limits. It also integrates the x402 protocol for machine-to-machine transactions.

The company described the move as support for "agentic commerce," with plans to expand to equities and prediction markets later. Robinhood introduced a similar offering last month.

Security features include isolated portfolios and upcoming options for spending caps and access restrictions.
