Compromís ratifies Mónica Oltra as candidate for mayor of València

Mónica Oltra was ratified on Saturday as Compromís candidate for mayor of València with 96% of the votes. The former vice president, awaiting trial, called for generosity to build a broad space beyond party acronyms.

The extraordinary assembly held at the Jardín Botánico of the Universitat de València confirmed Oltra's candidacy. She received 111 votes in favor, one against and four abstentions.

Oltra asked Compromís for generosity to go beyond the acronyms and create a meeting space with other parties and social movements. She had the support of Esquerra Unida, Podemos, Sumar and Esquerra Republicana.

In her speech she defended urban planning that prioritizes affordable housing and the fight against climate change. She cited the need to plant green in cities and rejected projects such as the Corredor Verde that crosses the garden dedicated to Federico García Lorca.
