PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has submitted to the court investigating the DANA management in Valencia the WhatsApp messages he received from Carlos Mazón on October 29, 2024. The exchanges start at 19:59 and reveal no communication during Mazón's lunch in El Ventorro. Mazón describes the situation as a 'fucking disaster' in later messages.
On December 24, 2025, Alberto Núñez Feijóo submitted to the Court of Instruction of Catarroja a notarial act with the WhatsApp messages received from Carlos Mazón on the day of the DANA, which caused 230 deaths in Valencia province. Feijóo requested to testify as a witness on January 9 via telematic means and clarified that he only included incoming messages, as the judge did not request his own.
The messages confirm that Feijóo initiated contact at 19:59, offering his support to Mazón. The former president replied at 20:08 with 'Thanks Presi', followed by 'I'll tell you later. It's getting fucked up every minute'. At that time, Mazón had not yet arrived at the Cecopi, where he took coordination at 20:28. There was no prior communication during his lunch with journalist Maribel Vilaplana in El Ventorro.
At 21:45, Mazón wrote: 'We are overwhelmed, we don't really know what's happening but we are getting dozens of missing people and I can't confirm them'. He reported conversations with Pedro Sánchez, María Jesús Montero, Margarita Robles, and Fernando Grande-Marlaska. At 23:21, he indicated that the central government had made itself 'more or less' available and that they had obtained the Military Emergency Unit (UME), which he described as 'what we need'.
Later, Mazón alerted about unpublished deaths in Utiel and concluded: 'This is going to be a fucking disaster, presi'. The last communication was at 23:29. These messages contradict Feijóo's statement on October 31, 2024, when he said Mazón was informing him 'in real time' since the previous Monday, an error the PP attributes to day confusion. The PP emphasized its collaboration with justice and rejected 'lawfare' accusations from the Government.
The submission occurs in the context of the judicial investigation into the tragedy's management, driven by the Association of Fatal Victims Dana 29-O.
