Fitbit expands AI health coach features to free subscribers

Fitbit has announced that its AI-powered Personal Health Coach, known as Coach, is now available to free subscribers through a public preview. The feature, powered by Google's Gemini AI, offers new tools for tracking cycle health, mental wellbeing, and nutrition. Premium users retain access to advanced personalized insights and plans.

Fitbit, Google's wearable fitness brand, revealed on Tuesday that free users can now access its Personal Health Coach feature via a public preview. Previously limited to Premium subscribers paying $10 monthly or $80 annually, Coach launched in October for US Android Premium users before expanding to other countries and iOS. Recent additions include a sleep coach, health advisor linked to medical records, and fitness trainer powered by Gemini AI. All users can now track health, fitness, sleep, and test upcoming app features while providing feedback to Google. A Google spokesperson told CNET: 'We're always looking to bring experiences to more and more of our users, and we're happy to be bringing some of the redesigned app experiences in Public Preview to users without a Premium membership, so even more people can try them out and share feedback with us.' The public preview introduces Cycle Health for logging periods and symptoms; Mental Wellbeing for mood tracking, mindfulness sessions, and a resilience score measuring stress response; and Nutrition and Water Logging for calorie, water, and meal tracking with macronutrient-based recommendations. Premium subscribers unlock full capabilities, such as personalized fitness plans and direct questions to Coach.
