A 32-year-old Miami man has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting his roommate multiple times inside their home. Jermaine Carol Grant appeared in court Tuesday and is being held without bond. Police say the victim was armed only with a BB gun.
Grant is accused of killing 38-year-old Xavier Pringle on Saturday night at a residence in Miami, Florida. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Pringle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.
Witnesses inside the home told police that tensions between the two men had been rising. One witness reported hearing about six shots before finding Pringle on the floor. Ring camera footage allegedly captured Grant firing toward Pringle while yelling that the victim had a gun.
Grant told investigators he acted in self-defense after a heated argument, claiming he believed Pringle's BB gun was real. He also stated that Pringle never pointed the weapon at him. Grant faces a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
