Global Mayors Explore Xishuangbanna Starlight Night Market and Elephant Valley

During the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue in Xishuangbanna, mayors and guests visited the Gaozhuang Xishuangjing Starlight Night Market and Wild Elephant Valley.

The visitors sampled local food, enjoyed scenic views, and experienced ethnic crafts and culture at the night market. The site blends Mekong River cultural traditions with entertainment, cultural experiences and specialty dining.

Representatives from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka also toured Wild Elephant Valley. They explored the rainforest landscape and the Asian Elephant Museum while learning about the natural habitat of Asian elephants.

Wild Elephant Valley lies within the Mengyang Section of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve. Established in 1990, it showcases harmonious coexistence between humans and elephants and supports Asian elephant conservation, monitoring, research and wildlife rescue efforts.
