iOS 27 expected to enable custom passes in Apple Wallet

Apple's upcoming iOS 27 is set to introduce a feature allowing users to create custom passes for the Apple Wallet app. This will enable tickets and passes from unsupported platforms to appear in the app via scannable QR codes. The update draws inspiration from a similar capability in Google's Wallet app.

Apple Wallet, introduced as Passbook in 2021, stores items such as debit cards, boarding passes, concert tickets, and digital car keys. Despite its growth, many ticket platforms lack native support for adding passes to the app. A Bloomberg report indicates that iOS 27 will address this by letting users import QR codes to generate custom passes requiring manual creation steps. Apple is testing template layouts, including orange for standard passes, blue for memberships, and purple for limited-time events like movies or sports. The pass builder will offer style and customization tools. Google's Wallet app for Android has provided a comparable feature since 2024. iOS 27 is scheduled for preview at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a full release expected in September alongside the iPhone 18. An Apple representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
