Junts faces internal split amid Aliança Catalana threat

Junts per Catalunya grapples with strategic crossroads after a CEO poll ties it with Aliança Catalana in voting intention. One faction seeks to adopt Sílvia Orriols's discourse, while former leader Artur Mas calls to reunify old Convergència wings. The 2027 municipal elections loom as the first major test.

A November CEO poll forecasts a tie between Junts and Aliança Catalana at 19-20 seats in hypothetical regional elections, with Sílvia Orriols's party leading in Lleida and Girona. Junts, with 60% vote loyalty, fears losses in the May 2027 municipal elections.

Former president Artur Mas urged "recovering" the various sensitivities of old Convergència, implicitly challenging Carles Puigdemont's leadership. This call addresses internal confusion on countering Orriols.

In Manresa, Junts announced a candidacy led by Ramón Bacardit with Sergi Perramon from Avenç Nacionalista, embracing anti-immigration rhetoric akin to Aliança Catalana's. The city has 80,000 residents, including 18,000 foreigners, half of Maghrebi origin.

Junts also faces rivalry from Salvador Illa's PSC, targeting business sectors, and ERC, which backed no-confidence votes in L’Ametlla de Mar and Perafort. Squeezed by these players, the party struggles to hold its electoral ground.
