Wyatt Langford hit a three-run home run and Josh Jung drove in the go-ahead run as the Texas Rangers defeated the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday at Globe Life Field.
Langford finished the series 7-for-13 with seven RBIs while Jung went 6-for-12. The pair combined for four RBIs and a run scored from the top of the lineup as Texas took two of three from San Diego.
Nathan Eovaldi earned the win after allowing three runs over six innings with nine strikeouts. Jakob Junis recorded his fifth save by retiring the final three batters in the ninth.
Manager Skip Schumaker said Langford is “a difference-maker in the lineup” and called him an “MVP type of player.” Langford, who was activated from the injured list on June 5, has hit five home runs in his past 21 games.
The victory improved the Rangers’ record to 37-40 and left them two games behind first-place Seattle in the AL West.
