Forward Logan Cooley has signed an eight-year, $80 million contract extension with the Utah Mammoth, committing to the team through the 2033-34 season. The deal, with an average annual value of $10 million, begins in 2026-27 after his entry-level contract expires. Cooley, 21, leads Utah in goals this season and ranks first among his 2022 draft class in career goals and points.

Logan Cooley, the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes, signed the extension on Wednesday, signaling his long-term commitment to the franchise now based in Utah. The 21-year-old center expressed his excitement about the deal, stating, “I’m excited to sign an eight-year extension with the Mammoth. Choosing to play with this group of teammates was the easiest part of this decision, and living in Utah has been amazing since day one.” He praised the atmosphere at the Delta Center and the support from owners Ryan and Ashley Smith.

Cooley is off to a strong start in his third NHL season, recording 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points in 11 games, leading the Mammoth in goals and tying for second in points. He notched a goal in Utah's 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday and was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Oct. 27 after scoring the franchise's first natural hat trick in a 4-point performance (3 goals, 1 assist) during a 7-4 win at St. Louis. Among players aged 23 or younger, he ranks first in the league in goals and tied for third in points. Utah sits at 8-3-0, with their next game hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

Last season, Cooley set career highs with 25 goals, 40 assists and 65 points in 75 games, earning NHL All-Rookie Team honors in 2023-24 with 20 goals and 44 points in 82 games. Over 121 regular-season games with Utah and Arizona, he has 53 goals and 121 points. Prior to the NHL, Cooley played one season at the University of Minnesota, tallying 22 goals and 60 points to lead the Gophers to the 2023 national championship game.

Utah general manager Bill Armstrong highlighted Cooley's elite skills and character: “Logan is not only an incredible player but an even better person and we look forward to watching him grow.” Governor Ryan Smith added, “He’s one of the most exciting young players in the league, and the fact that he’s chosen to plant roots here in Utah says everything about what we’re building.” Cooley aims high, saying his goal is “winning a Stanley Cup.”
