Man left custody papers beside slain ex-wife in store

Alejandro Estrada allegedly shot his ex-wife and her new husband at a Las Vegas grocery store on May 12 before placing child custody documents next to her body.

Estrada, 43, walked into the Smith's store in the Silverado Ranch neighborhood where Amanda Frias Rosas worked and opened fire, according to police testimony and court documents. Witnesses described him as calm during the attack, which also killed Victor Frias Rosas.

A Las Vegas Metro police detective testified that Estrada retrieved a red folder from his backpack after the shooting and tucked it into Amanda's arm. The couple had been preparing for their 12-year-old son's birthday, with a cake in their shopping cart.

Estrada faces two counts of open murder along with weapons and stalking charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 30.

The incident stemmed from a custody and child support dispute that began after the couple's 2023 split. Amanda had posted on Facebook about the ongoing conflict.
