The Seattle Mariners have agreed to an eight-year, $95 million contract extension with top infield prospect Colt Emerson, marking the largest deal ever for a player with zero MLB service time. The pact, announced Tuesday, includes a club option for a ninth year and could exceed $130 million with escalators. It follows the Milwaukee Brewers' similar eight-year, $50.75 million extension with shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt on Monday.

Emerson, the Mariners' No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline's No. 7 overall, was selected 22nd overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of an Ohio high school. The 20-year-old left-handed hitter has slashed .288/.398/.445 with 23 homers and 37 steals over three Minor League seasons, reaching Triple-A Tacoma last year. He has started 2026 strongly there, hitting .357 with a homer in his first few games, though the club plans to keep him in the Minors for development despite shortstop J.P. Crawford's shoulder injury.

Discussions on X about the Seattle Mariners' record pre-debut extension with Colt Emerson are predominantly positive, with fans and analysts praising the team's confidence in the top prospect's future stardom and strong minor league stats. High-engagement posts from MLB insiders and Mariners accounts emphasize the deal's historic nature and long-term benefits, while some note the associated risks but affirm its value.
