Marlins reporter nearly catches foul ball with cap

Miami Marlins reporter Christina De Nicola nearly caught a foul ball in the press box at Tropicana Field on Sunday using a cap as a makeshift glove. The ball came from Rays infielder Junior Caminero in the third inning but ultimately eluded her attempt.

De Nicola had prepared for the possibility ahead of the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. She borrowed a cap from colleague Daniel Alvarez-Montes and positioned herself to make the catch after noting the unusual lack of prior opportunities at the ballpark. As the ball approached, she stood up but watched it go in and out of the hat before bouncing off the wall.
