Sir Mick Jagger clapped back at John Mulaney’s 2019 shade while spilling how decades of stadium worship warped his grip on normalcy. The 82-year-old Rolling Stones frontman told The New York Times he’s permanently changed by fame yet still tries to fight it.
Jagger, who has not watched Mulaney’s Kid Gorgeous special, owned the disconnect. “You become dissociated. From other people,” he said, adding that showbiz circles only reinforce the bubble.
He described the damage as lasting. “Psychologically your actual state of mind is permanently damaged,” Jagger admitted, though he still makes “a conscious effort” to walk the street and buy The New York Times like everyone else.
Mulaney had joked that Jagger’s god-like status for fifty years erased everyday niceties such as borrowing a laptop charger. Jagger countered that his off-stage self is an “exaggerated version” he tries to switch off, hoping a normal person remains underneath.
So… has the rock god actually touched back down to earth, or is the dissociation here to stay?
