The Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 on Sunday to extend their winning streak to 13 games. The victory ties the 1948 team for the second-longest streak in franchise history.
Sonny Gray earned the win with his ninth straight quality start. Boston trailed early after an inside-the-park home run but rallied with three runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth on a Willson Contreras homer.
The streak began after a 32-46 start to the season. Since then the Red Sox have gone 18-2 and now sit at 50-48, holding the third wild-card spot in the American League.
Interim manager Chad Tracy said the run has been incredible. Third baseman Caleb Durbin called it a cool feeling to be part of team history.
Boston remains home this week for a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
