White Sox right-hander Sean Burke threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings to lead Chicago to a 3-0 victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday at Rogers Centre. The win improved the first-place White Sox to 52-46.
Burke retired the first 10 batters he faced and struck out five while allowing just three baserunners. He threw 69 strikes out of 98 pitches and used his fastball effectively throughout the game.
White Sox manager Will Venable praised Burke's performance after the game. "He was awesome. He was in the zone with the fastball, and it opened up some stuff for him," Venable said. "He was ahead in the count all day. Really, a clinic on both sides in count leverage."
Chicago scored its runs against Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage. Andrew Benintendi drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Colson Montgomery hit a solo home run in the sixth, and Benintendi later added an RBI single.
"We're a really good team, and we've had success and we're confident in ourselves," Montgomery said. Relievers Bryan Hudson and Grant Taylor finished the shutout for the White Sox.
