Southampton wegen Spionage aus den Championship-Play-offs ausgeschlossen

Southampton wurde aus den Championship-Play-offs entfernt, nachdem eine unabhängige Disziplinarkommission den Verein des Verstoßes gegen EFL-Vorschriften für schuldig befunden hatte. Der Verein räumte das unerlaubte Filmen der Trainingseinheiten gegnerischer Mannschaften ein. Middlesbrough wird nun deren Platz im Finale gegen Hull City einnehmen.

Eine Stellungnahme der EFL bestätigte, dass Southampton ausgeschlossen wurde, nachdem ein Mitarbeiter beim Filmen des Trainings von Middlesbrough vor dem Halbfinale erwischt wurde. Den Saints wurde zudem vorgeworfen, Trainingseinheiten von Ipswich Town und Oxford United beobachtet zu haben. Neben dem Ausschluss erhielt der Verein einen Verweis.
