A Swedish man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after trying to stop a fight in Copenhagen. Police are still hunting the suspected perpetrator two days later.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Islands Brygge in central Copenhagen. Sweden’s quarterfinal against France was shown on a large screen there after the match between Norway and Ivory Coast had been broadcast.
According to information given to Smålands-Tidningen the Swedish man intervened to stop a bar fight and was then subjected to gross violence. Three people are reported to have fled the scene according to Ekstra Bladet.
On Wednesday Copenhagen police published a picture of the suspect and urged him to turn himself in. The authority states it knows his identity but seeks more information. Bettina Blom at the police confirmed on Thursday that he has not been arrested.
Police declined to comment on the man’s condition or any crime classification. Both the Swedish Foreign Ministry and Rigshospitalet refer inquiries to Copenhagen police.
