A GPS-equipped ATV stolen in Leksand helped police dismantle an organized theft ring. Ten people have now been sentenced in Falu District Court for gross thefts.
In August 2025 an ATV was stolen from Erik Asp in Leksand. The vehicle had a hidden GPS tracker that showed it moving toward Poland. This allowed police to arrest suspects and seize around 70 cross motorcycles and ATVs.
The thefts occurred across ten counties during 2025. The vehicles were transported to Poland and the total value is estimated at five million kronor. Senior prosecutor Johan Knies said the investigation was the largest of its kind.
Falu District Court sentenced ten people on 24 June 2026. The harshest sentence was two years and six months in prison for a 36-year-old man. In total the convicted must pay 2.7 million kronor in damages.
