Two drivers have finished a diagonal coast-to-coast trip across the United States in a 2020 Tesla Model 3 using Full Self-Driving software on older hardware. The journey covered 4,255 miles with no driver interventions.
Koby Pierce and his co-pilot, known online as Liam’s Dad, drove the high-mileage vehicle from the southernmost buoy in Key West, Florida, to Cape Flattery, Washington. The car, which has over 175,000 miles on its original battery and drive units, ran on Hardware 3 with the newly released v14 Lite software.
Pierce posted on X that the team completed the first such diagonal crossing on HW3 FSD v14 Lite. He noted the trip required no manual steering, braking, accelerator, or turn signal inputs.
The coast-to-coast segment forms part of a larger 13,713-mile expedition called The Buoy to Bay. The drivers are now continuing north through British Columbia and the Yukon toward Fairbanks, Alaska.
