Uppsala has been named Sweden's best sports city for 2026 by the SVT Sports jury. The award is based on successes in team sports, international results and breadth in activities.
Erik Pelling, chair of the municipal board, expressed joy over the award. He highlighted the city's athletes who put Uppsala on the map.
Uppsala has had successes during the year. Sirius recorded its best Allsvenskan spring season in 45 years. Storvreta IBK secured its tenth SM gold and Fyrisfjädern strengthened its position as the country's top badminton club.
International results include a world championship bronze for Victoria Larsson in skeet as well as two world championship golds and world records for Armand Duplantis. Sakarias Ulriksson is considered the world's top floorball player. The jury was unanimous among 43 municipalities.
