The U.S. Treasury Department has published a list of medical devices requiring specific authorization for export to North Korea. The measure took effect on Thursday.
A Federal Register notice from Washington showed that the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control released the list on Thursday. The list covers oxygen generators, pumps with flow rates of more than one liter per minute, and diagnostic imaging equipment such as gamma, tactile and thermography devices.
It also includes laboratory items like freeze-drying and spray-drying equipment, decontamination showers, laboratory shakers, incubator shakers and carbon dioxide incubators. These items can no longer be exported under a general license and now need specific OFAC authorization.
The requirements aim to curb exports of dual-use items that could serve both civilian and military purposes as North Korea advances its weapons programs.
