Molly Hamby, 28, faces charges of solicitation of first-degree murder after allegedly asking a friend to make her husband 'disappear' amid marital troubles. The friend, a private investigator, reported the discussions to police. Hamby admitted to wanting her husband killed, according to authorities.
Molly Hamby, 28, of Wheatland, Wyoming, was arrested and charged with solicitation of first-degree murder and solicitation of forgery following an alleged plot to have her husband killed. She is being held at the Platte County Jail, with her next court date not publicly available. Court documents detail how Hamby texted a longtime friend, who works as a private investigator, about her marital issues after separating from her husband earlier in March. The couple reconciled temporarily, and Hamby returned home on March 21, allowing her husband to check her phone. There, he discovered messages from the previous day where Hamby referred to a 'job' she did not want to discuss over text and asked, 'Can you make someone disappear.' The friend replied, 'I Can yes.' They met in person at an auto parts store, after which Hamby texted, '[W]e need to get this done today if possible he has threaten[ed] to take kids away from me a few times,' adding, 'He can[']t have my kids.' Fearing loss of their three children in a potential divorce, Hamby provided the friend with her husband's location details for March 20 and asked for help forging his signature on a motorcycle title. On March 22, Hamby's husband took the phone to the Platte County Sheriff's Office. The friend told police Hamby initially sought him as a bodyguard but that they discussed harming her husband. When confronted, Hamby claimed she wanted 'help and protection' but admitted desiring her husband's murder, saying she was 'extremely mad' at him. Wheatland Police Chief Bradley Otte referenced these details in court filings, as obtained by Cowboy State Daily. Hamby's friend has not been charged.
