Morante de la Puebla cuts two ears in triumphant return to Seville

José Antonio Morante de la Puebla made his comeback at Seville's Real Maestranza on Easter Sunday, cutting two ears before an ecstatic crowd with former King Juan Carlos I in attendance. Bullfighters Roca Rey and David de Miranda also earned trophies in the Garcigrande bullfight. The event drew numerous public figures and sold out completely.
Málaga's La Malagueta bullring hosted the Picassiana Corrida on Saturday in mourning for Ricardo Ortiz, a corralero and former bullfighter killed the previous day by a goring. Saúl Jiménez Fortes delivered the afternoon's most notable bullfighting, penalized by the sword, amid lackluster bulls from Puerto de San Lorenzo and El Pilar. The venue was sold out with 'no hay billetes'.

Retired matador Ricardo Ortiz, 52, from Málaga, died on Good Friday in the corrals of La Malagueta bullring after being gored by a bull while handling animals. The incident happened after 7pm and is under investigation by National Police as a workplace accident. Lances de Futuro, organizer of Saturday's Corrida Picassiana, has expressed deep regret over the corralero's death.
