A group of 76 officialist mayors issued a public declaration on Thursday backing the agreement reached with the government on the National Reconstruction Law.
The mayors stated that the proposal guarantees 100% of municipal resources for the country's 345 communes, including both own revenues and those from the Common Municipal Fund. The declaration rejects criticisms from opposition mayors and calls on the Senate to dispatch the initiative with urgency.
Signatories include Mario Desbordes of Santiago, Jaime Bellolio of Providencia, Camila Merino of Vitacura and Sebastián Sichel of Ñuñoa. The document holds that the dialogue achieved the goal that no municipality would see its revenues affected by the megareform.
The mayors noted that political trenches harm municipalism and asked the Chilean Association of Municipalities to work for the 345 municipalities as one Chile.
